Curriculum Intent
At Pickering Infant School, our music curriculum intends to inspire creativity, self-expression and encourages our children on their musical journeys as well as giving them opportunities to connect with others. We hope to foster a lifelong love of music by exposing them to diverse musical experiences and igniting a passion for music. By listening and responding to different musical styles, finding their voices as singers and performers and as composers, all will enable them to become confident, reflective musicians.
We use Sing Up across school as a vehicle to deliver our curriculum in both Key Stage One and in the Foundation Stage. This is supported by a wide range of other opportunities which draw from the Early Years principles of this subject area being a small part of the expressive arts. These enhance the work done through Sing Up, including being a part of Sing Up Day, Nursery Rhyme Week, dance day as well as visiting music and theatre productions and workshops. We also offer a range of experiences across our local community, including visits from musicians from our feeder junior school, contributing through music to local events such as the Town Carol Service and Christmas light switch on events, performing at local residential homes and villages and at the local library.
