Curriculum Intent
The curriculum aim for physical education at Pickering Community Infant and Nursery School is to provide physical activity experienced in a safe, supportive and stimulating environment. It is vital for developing children’s physical and emotional health and well-being. Our curriculum provides opportunities for children to grow more confident in their ability to manage themselves and their bodies through movement as well as developing key skills. Using a wide range of activities, resources and appropriate differentiation we intend that all children, irrespective of their cultural, academic or physical differences, will experience success and be motivated to further develop their individual potential. Our school ethos is embedded throughout children’s physical education, providing opportunities to develop as individuals, work together with others and share success.
Physical activity plays an important part in the overall education and well being of children by helping them to lead full and active lives. We help children to understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle, begin to understand factors that influence health and fitness, and develop their physical competence.
