Intent
We believe in giving children the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to select and use appropriate mathematics in their every day lives. We believe that children learn best through interactive, hands on experiences that enable children to understand and appreciate relationships and patterns in number, shape, space and measures which in turn develop their problem solving skills.
Implementation
In Foundation Stage, we follow a carefully sequenced small steps in learning approach developed alongside Yorkshire Riding Maths Hub. In Key Stage One (Years One and Two), we use White Rose as the basis of our Maths Curriculum. Both of these are supported by our Visual Representations Document which has been developed collaboratively by Maths Leaders at Pickering Community Infant and Nursery School and Pickering Community Junior School.
