At Pickering Infant and Nursery School, we are registered to accept payments through the Government ‘Tax Free Childcare’ scheme. Through this, families can get up to £500 every 3 months (up to £2,000 a year) for each child to help with the costs of childcare. For every £8 that you pay in, the government will pay £2 in to use to pay your provider. We accept payments through this scheme for non-funded Nursery hours and for Breakfast and After School Club.
More details, including how to register can be found at https://www.gov.uk/tax-free-childcare

Nursery Fees for non-funded hours
Nursery fees per hour | Lunchtime | |
From 1st April 2024 | £5.75 | £4.31 |
Families are welcome to send a packed lunch for their child, following the guidelines in our Packed Lunch Policy. Alternatively, families can choose to pay for a hot school lunch. Costs for these are currently £2.45 per meal and, from 1st September 2025 will be £2.60.
Funded hours
Other than the option to pay for a hot school lunch, there are no additional fees charged by our school for funded hours. The 15 or 30 funded hours that your child is entitled to are entirely free to families for sessions 8.45am until 3.30pm term time only (38 weeks).
All 3-year-old children are entitled to 15 hours free nursery education and some families, subject to eligibility criteria, are able to access additional hours through Extended Entitlement funding for 30 hours free nursery education. Our staff in the school office will be glad to speak to you and give you more details about our Nursery provision and how to access funding for this. We offer places in September each year for children who turned three years old before 1st September. We offer an additional January intake for children who turn three in the autumn term, subject to place availability.
Voluntary Contributions
Children are provided with a snack in the morning and afternoon. These are fruit and vegetables with options including pear, apple and chopped carrot. We like to offer children a wider range of foods during our snack times and ask for voluntary parental contributions of 50p per week for snack in Nursery.
We offer children the opportunity to enjoy school visitors such as visiting theatre companies and puppet workshops. We also offer visits out into the local community and at least one visit per year a little further afield requiring a minibus or coach journey, such as to Dalby Forest. There are charges associated with visits and visitors but we have an extremely proactive Friends of School who commit to fundraising to pay for three whole school visitors per year and £15 per child for off site visits. It is, therefore, very rare that we ask for any voluntary parental contributions for all of these amazing opportunities that we are able to offer.
